Level 3 English 214

Information for students

Welcome to Level 3!

Assessment for this course is based on in class assignments on all four skills, attendance, assigned homework including, a project and a progress test as outlined below.

Course Assessment

All tasks will be done in class under timed conditions. Dates are scheduled on the calendar.

Writing 10%, Reading 10%, Listening 10%

One complete IELTS type test done in class under timed conditions.

Speaking evaluation 10%

To be done in class as individual IELTS type interviews

Project 7%

One long essay (1000 words with references), assigned and completed in your own time.

Vocabulary 3%

The course is on BlackBoard Vista. There are 12 quizzes and you have to achieve 70% on a quiz to be able to see the next quiz.

Writing Portfolio 20%

This will be made up of 6 writing tasks. 3 Task 1 type essays and 3 Task 2. Marks are given for first drafts and rewrites.

Reading Portfolio 15%

There are 8 reading quizzes on BlackBoard Vista.

Progress Test 15%

There is no re-sit for tests. If you are absent on the day of the test or for any part of the test, you will not be allowed take the test at a later date except in exceptional circumstances agreed with the Chair Steve Allison.
